$30,000 towards the Endowment. It was, however, estimated
by the Director of Public Works that the design which Mr.—--
Mody had put forward as his idea of the kind of building
he had in mind would cost much more than the sum estimated.
Mr. Mody thereupon undertook to erect it whatever the cost
might be, stipulating, however, that the $30,000 he had
promised for Endowment should be used wholly or in part
for any excess incurred over the original estimate of
$150,000. This sum of $30,000 has in consequence been
entirely excluded from consideration in regard to the
Endowment Fund, and it has been assumed that Mr. Mody
would spend the entire sum of $180,000 on the buildings
and more if that estimate should be exceeded.

accept Mr. Mody's generous offer until a capital sum of
£110,000 had been raised as an Endowment and Equipment
Fund, and Mr. Mody consented to leave his offer open till
December 31st., 1909, at or before which date it would be
accepted if the said sum had by that time been raised. In
the meantime it appeared premature to discuss the designa
for the building in any detail.
